What once was Old, now is New

We’re finally BACK!

New guitarist! Woot! Thought we’d never find someone. Whoever told me that guitarists are “a dime a dozen” was LYING!

Steve’s been a really good friend of mine for quite some time. He also taught me how to play guitar. Not that I kept up with it… should have though. Drums = God though.

Welcome aboard Steve!

In other news: We’re looking to book shows in November 2011. If you’re interested in booking our band to perform at your venue, please email jen@severthemeans.com

Looking forward to new songs, new venues, and more fans like you!

A Year in Review

Wow… a whole year has come and gone in the blink of an eye.

For those who don’t know, we played our first gig as this incarnation of the band on December 27th, 2009.

And ever since, things progressed, regressed, changed, transformed, altered… I can go on.

I’m new to the music scene. I haven’t been doing this since I was 15. I actually started playing drums 3 years ago. And the fact that I progressed this far, escapes me. But I’m thankful to my friends, my band, my family for helping me get to where I am. Even though, to some, where I am is not even a blip on a Doppler.

I digress.

This year has also taught us a great deal. How to work together. How to schedule and how to lose.  And we made some mistakes, and some successful decisions along the way.

We fought wretched cold snowy days, blistering hot days, severe thunder storms and asshole sound guys.

There where huge bars, comfy lounges, tiny stages and shitty gear. We shared what we had with other bands, they, in return, shared with us.

And in the face of the new year, there lies the birth of a new band. A new year to play, write, sing and create. A new dawn.

Though those who have graced us with there talent in the last year have come and gone, we are forever grateful to them for gracing our band with immense talent and uniqueness.

In the end, nothing could beat the experience, the trials and the failures, the love, the hate, the ambivalence, the cursing, the arguments, the disagreements, the progress, the talent, the art… the Music.

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.
Aldous Huxley (1894 – 1963)

Another one bites the dust

So in light of the stupid ass weather, we had to cancel our show.

I’m seriously bummed out about this because this would have symbolized a year of playing gigs, of being a real band, of making our dreams a reality. Well, here’s hoping that 2011 isn’t as sucktacular as 2010 ended.

Some vacation this turned out to be. I was supposed to go bowing, ice skating, karaoke. No, 20 frakin’ inches of horrible white powder is keeping me stuck indoors. My friend’s block in Queens hasn’t even been plowed yet! Can you imagine. It’s like… Raccoon City! Sans the Zombie creatures, of course.

Well, in three days this horrible ass of a year will finally come to an end, and 2011 proves to hold, by my prediction, a lot of new beginnings.

So here’s to you all, wherever you are. Hope you all have a safe and happy and don’t get soo fucked up on the nog!

Cheers!

Happy New Years Eve Eve Eve

How long has it been since I posted something here?

I want to thank, wholeheartedly, the fans who have turned out to our last few shows. It means a lot to us that you came out and supported us. I know that you’re all itching for new music, and I assure you, we’re working on new tunes presently!  We hope to debut some of them at our next show.

We’ve got another show coming up really soon. But with heavy heart I have to say, it will be without Angelica. She has moved on to other projects and will no longer be performing with STM. Cheers to her for putting up with us crazy cats and much luck and fortune for her future endeavors.

Monet has stepped in as lead vocalist and will be debuting at our December 29th show at Bar Matchless in Greenpoint Brooklyn! Everyone show up and support us and the other bands performing. We’re planning to make this a rockin’ New Years Eve Eve Eve party you won’t forget.

Now here’s a run down of all the crazy things that happened to us while performing this year:

  • Singer gets into verbal Jūdō with sound tech.
  • House snare drum falls off shelf knocking out Ren’s amp and almost hitting Jen in the face. We still played on!
  • Drums start to slide across the stage away from Jen.
  • Crash cymbal almost decapitated Ben while the rest of the kit starts to topple over the stage.

Good times!

So let’s kick 2010 in the balls and make room for her beyoch, 2011!  Happy Holidays to all and to all a good afternoon.

PS, I started writing this post in October. WTF is wrong with me?!
